Privacy

In short: you don't need an account, we don't place cookies and we don't track you. The calculator works in your own browser. Only what you send yourself (a message, a report or your situation) reaches us.

What stays in your browser?

To show the calculator again after reloading, your browser stores (in localStorage, not a cookie) on your own device:

  • what you entered (consumption, appliances, contract, postcode, purchase prices) and the options you chose;
  • the bill from your annual statement that you confirmed;
  • the market prices your browser fetched from EnergyZero, so they don't have to be fetched every time.

This is not sent to us; we don't store the market prices either. ‘Start over’ in the calculator clears your input; you can clear everything with this site's browser data. The calculator fetches the solar yield for your location again on every visit.

With ‘Share or save’ you store your input with us and get a short code and a link; with these you or your adviser open the same situation, also on another device, and the calculator recalculates it. Your browser first encrypts the input with a key derived from the code; we only receive the encrypted text and do not know the code, so we cannot read it. Whoever has the code or the link does see your input (including your postcode): only share them with people you want to show it to. If an adviser enters your code, they keep your input with their licence. We delete it after 12 months; you can delete it sooner yourself, with Delete next to the code or on the home page under 'Have a code?'. If saving fails, you get a long link that contains your input itself, after the hash (#); your browser does not send that part to a server.

The PDF report saves your situation in the same way, so that the code is printed on the report as text: a link does not work on paper. To make the PDF, the text of the report passes briefly through our server and Cloudflare's browser; we do not store or log it. If that fails, your own browser makes the PDF by printing.

Who sees your requests?

As with any website, a party your browser fetches something from sees your IP address and browser. The calculator fetches data from:

  • Cloudflare, which hosts this site. It processes the usual technical data that comes with every visit, such as your IP address, to serve the site and protect it against abuse. We do not use any analytics or advertising services.
  • EnergyZero, for the hourly prices of the electricity market (directly from your browser).
  • PDOK (the Dutch government), to find the town and location for your postcode. This goes through our server: PDOK receives your postcode, not your IP address.
  • PVGIS (European Commission), for the solar yield at your location. Also through our server: PVGIS only receives the rounded coordinates of the centre of your postcode, the orientation and the tilt of the panels.

Cloudflare briefly keeps the answers from PDOK and PVGIS in a cache, so a next request is faster. Nothing in it refers to you.

Cloudflare is an American company, so data may be processed outside the EU; Cloudflare is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which the European Commission allows such transfers.

What you send yourself

Four forms send data to us, only when you click send. Our server at Cloudflare forwards them as an e-mail to info@magict.nl; no other service is involved and the server does not keep them. To prevent abuse, it counts for one hour how many messages come from an IP address, using only a scrambled form (hash) of that address.

  • Contact: your name, e-mail address, subject and message. To reply to you.
  • Is this wrong? in the calculator: what you filled in, the results and your explanation; your e-mail address or phone number if you give it, your postcode and town only if you tick that, and your code if you enter it or have one made with a tick (with it we can open your saved situation). To reproduce the error and improve the calculator. You see in advance what is sent. You e-mail your annual statement or invoice yourself, if you wish.
  • Help improve the calculator: if you email your annual statement or bill to info@magict.nl yourself, we use it only to test the calculation model. Nothing goes through the site; you may black out your name, address and customer number.
  • Report a problem (at the bottom of every page): what you describe and your email address if you give it. Sent along automatically: the page (without what you entered), the language, the step of the calculator, your browser and screen size, the version of the site and error messages from that page. To solve the problem. You see beforehand what is sent.

Download hourly usage

At /export you fetch your hourly usage from your supplier (currently Tibber only, with your personal token). Our server fetches the data from your supplier and passes it straight to your browser; it stores nothing, not even your token. If you come from the calculator, it first saves your input with a code, as with 'Share or save'. Only if you tick the box and click send do we email the export (your hourly usage, without name or address) with your comment, email address and that code to info@magict.nl, to test the calculation model against your calculation.

Logging in with a licence code (businesses)

Only people who use the calculator professionally log in to the dashboard with a licence code. Our server then sets one functional cookie (e27_sessie, 30 days) to keep you logged in. Our database holds a scrambled form (hash) of the code and of the session, with the date, and the name of your company. To prevent guessing, the server records a scrambled form (hash) of your IP address with the number of attempts after a failed attempt; this counts for one hour and is deleted as soon as you log in successfully, and otherwise within a day. The server also counts this way how often a situation is saved or retrieved with a code. What you enter in the dashboard is stored with your licence on our server, so you see it on every device you log in on: your price list, offers, the adviser's name and the logo, and your clients' addresses with their calculations (name or reference, postcode, note and what you entered in the calculator). You are responsible for your clients' data; we only store it for you and use it for nothing else. For this we conclude a data processing agreement with every licence holder; you agree to it when you first log in.

Why are we allowed to do this?

  • Contact, ‘Is this wrong?’ and ‘Report a problem’: to handle your question or report (legitimate interest, and you send it yourself).
  • Sending us the export of your usage: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time; email info@magict.nl.
  • Sharing your situation: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time; e-mail info@magict.nl.
  • Share or save: to store your situation at your request and give it back with a code (contract). Counting per IP address: to prevent misuse (legitimate interest).
  • The PDF report: to make the PDF you ask for (contract); counting per IP address to prevent abuse (legitimate interest).
  • Serving the site through Cloudflare: to make the site work and keep it secure (legitimate interest).
  • Logging in with a licence code: to provide the licence (contract) and to protect it against misuse (legitimate interest).

How long do we keep it?

  • Messages and reports: until your question or the error has been handled, and at most one year (as at MagicT).
  • An export of your usage that you send us: as long as we need it to test the model, and no longer than one year.
  • Shared situations: as long as we need them to test the model, and at most one year; we then remove your name and e-mail address.
  • Licence sessions: valid until you log out, at most 30 days. Failed attempts: until you log in successfully, and otherwise within a day. Whatever has expired is deleted automatically every night.
  • Situations with a code (Share or save): 12 months, or shorter if you delete them.
  • What you enter in the dashboard, including your clients' addresses: as long as your licence exists. An address you delete is gone immediately.

Your rights

You may ask which data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. You can also object or withdraw your consent. One e-mail to info@magict.nl or a phone call is enough; we arrange it within a week. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
