Frequently asked questions

What are feed-in costs?

Feed-in costs are costs a supplier charges for electricity you feed back to the grid with solar panels. Some suppliers charge an amount per kWh, others a fixed monthly amount that rises with how much you feed back (a tiered scale).

Suppliers say that solar power fed back costs them money: on sunny afternoons there is a lot of supply and electricity is worth little, sometimes even less than nothing. They pass those costs on to customers with solar panels.

What does this mean for you?

Without net metering, from 2027, they come on top of a feed-in compensation that is already much lower than what you pay for electricity. The more you feed back, the more they matter when choosing a supplier. Using more solar power yourself limits them.
