Should I cancel my fixed contract before net metering ends?
Not automatically. First check in the terms what your supplier pays or charges for feeding back once net metering ends, and what cancelling costs. Then calculate whether another contract makes up for that.
You can cancel a fixed-term contract early, but the supplier usually charges a cancellation fee. A contract without a fixed term (indefinite) can be cancelled with short notice, without a fee.
What to check
How high the feed-in tariff is once net metering ends, whether there are feed-in costs and how they increase, when the term ends and what cancelling costs. You will find this in the terms or the rate sheet of your contract.
Compare like with like
Energie27 compares fixed contracts on each supplier's model contract, without welcome bonuses or promotions. You can enter a bonus or a cancellation fee yourself; it then counts once in the calculation year.
