Frequently asked questions

What is a feed-in tariff?

The amount your supplier pays for electricity you feed back to the grid. As long as net metering applies, it only counts for what you feed back beyond what you take. From 2027 it counts for every kWh you feed back.

With a fixed contract, the feed-in tariff is in your rates, as an amount per kWh. With a dynamic contract you usually get the market price of that moment, sometimes minus a markup. Feeding back mostly happens on sunny afternoons, when the market price is low.

Tariff and costs

Many suppliers also charge feed-in costs. What feeding back yields on balance is the tariff minus those costs. That can be close to zero, or negative.
